Three Problems of the Minerals Oxidation

The flotation operation of the flotation machine is the kind of separation way that depends on the physical and chemical properties of the surface of the mineral particles to separate the minerals according to the differences of the flotability of the minerals. The flotation operation includes the grinding, grading, size mixing and the roughing, selection and the scavenging operation in the flotation process.
The oxidation and dissolution of the minerals have a major impact on the flotation procedure of the flotation machine, especially the chemical relations between the oxygen with copper, lead, zinc, iron, nickel and other sulfide, which need the special attention of the operators. The main reason is that the above-mentioned metals and sulfur have great chemical affinity for oxygen, resulting in that the metal sulfide has a high interaction capacity with the oxygen. Oxygen has a significant effect on the interaction of the minerals, water and the reagents under the flotation conditions. In the liquid phase, the content of the oxygen is able to adjust and control the flotation, causing the improvement or deterioration of the flotation and separation of the sulfide.
A, the role of oxygen and sulfide ore
The study shows that: the interaction between the oxygen and sulfide is carried out in stages. In the first stage, the moderate amount of physical adsorption of the oxygen makes that the sulfide surface realize the hydrophobization. In the second stage, the oxygen is simultaneously ionized. In the third stage, the chemisorptions of the ionized oxygen promote the oxidation of the sulfide, generating a variety of sulfur group.

The influencing factors mainly include the initial concentration of oxygen, the pH of the solution, the relationship between the particle size of the minerals and sulfide coexistence. Initial oxygen concentration has the impact on the adsorption of the sulfide. Typically, the increase of the H + ion concentration exacerbates the mineral oxide.

The dissolved oxygen in water is absorbed by the ore particles of different particle size to make the oxygen content in water decrease, which indicates that if the particle size of the ore particles is smaller, they are more easily to be oxidized.
